The Department of Defence and Strategic Studies is one of the premier departments of Iswar Saran Degree College, A Constituent P.G. College of University of Allahabad, Prayagraj. This department was established in 1970 as the Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, offering undergraduate courses in Defence Studies. In 2016 the department started post-graduation courses focusing more on research activities. The Department of Defence and Strategic Studies offers B.A. & B.SC., M.A. & M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Defence and Strategic Studies. Dr. Jitendra Bahari and Dr. Brij Gopal Gautam were the founding faculties of the department. Dr. S.P.S. Tomar was the former faculty of the department. The present faculty members of the department is Dr. Dheerendra Dwivedi, Dr. Uday Pratap Singh and Dr. Manvendra Kumar Verma. The department has an excellent lab facility for the undergraduate students. There is a practical lab for conducting experiments and exercises related to different type of maps and depiction of battles with the help of sand models. The department has a well-organized library with the help of central library of the college.
Department of Defence and Strategic Studies is expanding the horizon of discipline through research and innovation and has inculcated thought-provoking teaching. Since its inception, Department of Defence and Strategic Studies has been building up institutional knowledge about various aspects of India's national security. At Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, we acknowledge the changing nature of security and various developments at national and international level. We use an interdisciplinary approach to understand various areas of discipline. We give major thrust on national and international security, geopolitical studies, military geography, strategic studies, international organization, international strategic relations, military history, science & technology and defence journalism. During their study students interact with the experts and resource persons from different areas through seminars, conferences, lectures, and workshops organised by the department. The students also explore the opportunity to visit various research organisations, think tanks, military establishments, historical places and war museums. The department is bound to establish a rich tradition of academic excellence and a better understanding of India’s security requirements.
